Dodge’s Future is Bright and Plans for More Focus.

avenger_Blacktop_1Apparently reports of Dodge’s “demise” are greatly exaggerated. Dodge is here to stay!

We may have commented on the future of Dodge a few weeks back, but Ralph Gilles, SRT’s president, wants to put those rumors to bed for good. He took to his twitter account over the weekend to write out those very words, that “…all rumors, Dodge is here to stay! It may get more focused going forward but not killed.”

The keyword in what he posted appears to be “focused.” Just speculating here, but could that mean the more redundant in the Chrysler line-up are going to be discontinued? Will there be a unified focus on certain model types?

Car Advice notes that Dodge has already been making steps towards being more focused. Ram split from Dodge and became it’s own sub-brand back in 2009. SRT took off on its own as well, focusing on performance and taking the Viper from Dodge. The Avenger is planned to be put on a shelf come 2004 and if Durango doesn’t make a come-back, then it leaves Dodge with the Dart, Charger, Challenger, and the Journey.

That means it’s time to simply wait and see what happens next. One thing is certain, while specific models might be blurry when looking at the future, Dodge brand is bright. Gilles isn’t one to mince words. So just what is it that Dodge has up its sleeve?

New Dodge Journey Coming in 2016?

UntitledThe Dodge Journey first was first launched in 2009. Since then the mid-sized crossover SUV really hasn’t been changed in a major way. The next-generation of the model will be coming in 2016.

Automotive News is reporting that the Dodge Journey will be taking production away from the Chrysler 200 sedan, which is being built in the Sterling Heights Assembly plant in Michigan. Production of the Journey currently is in Toluca, Mexico.

The rumor being reported on is that, like the Chrysler 200, the new Dodge Journey will be using the same Giulieta platform that’s being used for the Dodge Dart and the upcoming Jeep Cherokee.

By moving production up to Michigan may be happening to help reduce costs by making it easier for suppliers to provide common components necessary to build the vehicles. Seems like a smart choice, especially if Dodge plans on really pushing the new generation of the Dodge Journey.

Dodge Test-Drives for a Good Cause

As part of Dodge’s community outreach across the country, Dodge will be supporting breast cancer research and education at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas 1/2 Marathon this weekend.

The race benefits the Susan G. Komen foundation, one of the country’s best-known health groups. Nine other charitable organizations have also partnered with the event including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and ASPCA. In addition to the race, there will be concerts and a Health & Fitness Expo. According to event organizers, the free expo will feature “the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays.”

Dodge has really made an effort to be a major presence at the race. They will be hosting a recovery tent at the race for runners to stretch, mingle, or rest up, and they will also be part of the Health & Fitness Expo. At the expo, they will be showing off the 2012 Durango, Journey, and Challenger, and Dodge will make a donation to charity for every test drive that happens during the expo.

I would love to be in Dallas for the race this weekend, especially considering that so many great charitable organizations are involved, and it is exciting that Dodge is so involved with the race. Good luck to all the runners, and be sure to stop by the Dodge booth to take a test drive for a good cause!
