Dodge Continues Ad Campaign With Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo

Chrysler has never had a hard time getting actors and singers to help promote their products.  From Eminem to Bob Dylan to Clint Eastwood.  Now a popular character actor gets to join that ranks; the one and only Danny Trejo.

It is all part of the popular “It’ll Test You” Hispanic marketing campaign.  It’s also a part of Dodge’s new partnership with A Walk on Water, a nonprofit organization that shares the therapeutic powers of the ocean.  A few weeks ago, at an event on Sept 17th, Dodge gave AWOW a check for $20,000 and announced a special program for even more donations to the organization.

For dealerships participating in Southern California, whenever someone takes a test drive, Dodge donates $50.  The customer who took the test drive will also receive two free tickets to the Supersonico Latin music festival on October 3rd.

As for Danny Trejo fits into all this, he’ll be a part of a Hispanic advertising campaign for the 2015 Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Dart.  The campaign will be made up of three different spots.  The spots came out in June and showcase the actor doing what he does best.

“We always knew that Danny Trejo’s tough persona, strong character and perfect mix of both muscle and fun made him the ideal spokesperson for Dodge’s ‘It’ll Test You’ campaign, as he epitomizes the irreverence and dare-to-be-different attitude of the Dodge brand,” said Juan Torres, head of multicultural advertising, FCA US LLC. “We learned about the other side of Danny when we met him – his philanthropic work and his passion for A Walk on Water – which made it easy for Dodge and our dealers to support Danny in his efforts to generate awareness and funds for this wonderful organization.”

Community Comes Together to Purchase a Dodge Dart

24-dart-blue-brickIt’s been a while since we announced that Dodge put together a registry to help customers pay for their Dart. The good news is that the registry has just produced its first full purchase. The even better news is that the first Dart was purchased for charity.

The very first Dodge Dart that was crowd-funded was by a group in Clifton Park, NY by the Northstar Church. The community came together for a greater cause, however, in where the Dart was going to. It was to help a woman, Toni, in need of transportation for her weekly trips to Boston to be part of a clinical trial for treatment..

The registry was made by friends and without her knowledge. All it took to raise the $22,600 for the Dart was 21 days. More than 260 friends, family, and church members put in their contributions to provide for someone in need.

Such a big deal, both the charity and the fact this is the first Dart purchased through the registry, needs a celebration centered around it. So Toni was invited to a special event at a local dealership in Clifton Park to be given the 2013 Dodge Dart SXT by her close friends. Dodge also showed up to take part of the event with a special announcement.

Dodge is giving a contribution of $20,000 to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of what the attendees of the Northstar Church were able to accomplish. In further effort to help Toni with her medical treatment, the auto company also gave her a $2,000 gift card to help pay for the gas she needs for those long trips to Boston.

“The Dodge Dart Registry was designed as an innovation way for friends and family to come together in raising funds toward the purchase of an all-new Dodge Dart,” Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge Brand said. “In recognition of the great collaborative effort of the Clifton Park, NY, community who raised in excess of $22,500 in support of their friend, I’m pleased to announce a significant contribution on behalf of the Dodge Brand to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.”

It’s one of those heart-warming stories that is hard not to feel something while reading.  A community rising up to help someone in their neighborhood.  It certainly shows just how the registry can be put to use.  I wonder if there will be any other creative uses of crowd-funding for purchasing a vehicle.

Dodge Helps a Paralyzed Teen Find Transport

Dodge had a fantastic surprise for a family struggling with difficult times.

Alberto Cruz is a 15-year-old from Willmantic, Conn and was the victim of an unfortunate accident. Due to a freak surfing accident that occurred at Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island, he is paralyzed from the shoulders down.

A major issue that the Cruz family encountered was that their car was unable to accommodate the specialized wheelchair that Alberto required. That meant that the only way he could travel to school was in a box truck with his wheelchair tied to the floor with ropes while a family member held on tightly to keep the chair from moving.

Here’s the good news of the story. Alberto stayed strong with what happened to him and didn’t give up on his schooling when forced into exhausting therapy sessions. His teacher, Lynn Fraizer, recognized the strength he was showing and nominated him as a “Local Hero.” The community voted for him in droves and helped him become one of three national winners of a “Local Heroes” contest that was looking to reward three people with new wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Chrysler Group presented Alberto with a brand new 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan specially designed to support his wheelchair. The event had him surrounded by his family, friends, teachers, and even the cheerleader squad came out to help celebrate. Alberto was able to easily get into the Grand Caravan with the use of the a rear ramp that was made by Braunability and Ride-Away.

With the ability to finally be able to provide Alberto transportation to anywhere along with themselves, the family made their first stop following the festivities. Where did they go? To a Chinese buffet, Alberto’s favorite restaurant.

First Production Model of the SRT Viper GTS Auctioned for Charity

The new Dodge SRT Viper GTS is a hotly anticipated vehicle, one that anyone who loves sports cars would want in their garage. One such fan was lucky enough to snag the first production model. The catch to owning it however was that it was placed on auction. The best part, however, is that the winnings were donated to charity. The chance to own the first Dodge SRT Viper GTS ended up bringing in $300,000 which will be given to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

The Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology brand partnered with the Austin Hatcher Foundation to put this charity auction together to benefit the children and families that struggle with pediatric cancer. Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC, said of the partnership, “What an exciting and momentous occasion for the Austin Hatcher Foundation and the SRT brand. We’ve enjoyed a lot of attention since showing the all-new SRT Viper to the world just three months ago in New York, and now being able to use some of that interest in our flagship supercar to generate support for this deserving charity is simply outstanding.”

The production of the new Viper is slated to begin later this year at the home of the Viper at the Detroit Conner Avenue Assembly Plant. It is being reborn with a emphasis on more power and more performance with an 8.4 liter V-10 that is able to produce 640 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque.
