Dodge Tops 2012 APEAL Study

J.D Power and Associates just gave Dodge a good reason to be smiling for the rest of the week. The recent release of their Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study ranked two Dodge models as the highest in their segments.

The Auto Channel shows that in the report, Dodge had the most significant gains. To be more exact, Dodge was the most improved over all of the other auto-makers, a 21 point increase from the previous year. Ram also had a sizable increase of 19 points. The Dodge Charger was given the highest ranking in the “Large Car” segment. The Dodge Challenger the best “Midsize Sporty” segment. This is now the second year in a row that both of these vehicles have ranked the highest in their classes.

What the APEAL study does is take a look at how gratifying a new car is to own and drive. The break-down is is on more than 80 vehicle attributes. The APEAL study is about the first 90 days of ownership and looking at the likes and dislikes the consumer has in regards to things such as vehicle design, content, and performance.

Doug Betts, Senior Vice President of Chrysler Group clearly enjoyed the news of the study, “This year’s study results are a clear indication that Chrysler Groups’ focus on quality, design, and performance is being recognized and appreciated by customers. We listen to our customers and continually implement changes to our vehicles to meet, and exceed, their needs.”

Dodge Dart and What Lies Ahead

“All that matters is what’s ahead.”

The tag-line for the 2013 Dodge Dart perfectly sums up Dodge’s attitude towards what is arguably their most important vehicle of 2012, and in a splashy show of support, Dodge has installed a 116-foot-by-145-foot building wrap bearing the tag-line on their headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Dart won’t be available until late June, but Dodge has been getting it as much exposure as possible. As we previously reported, Dodge marketing has heavily targeted young people and positioned it to be the hot sedan of 2012. As June gets closer and the reviews keep rolling in, though, it is becoming clearer that this car is more important for Dodge than anyone could have imagined.

The Dodge Dart will be the first vehicle that Chrysler will have designed alongside Fiat SpA. People will take the launch of the Dodge Dart and how well it performs as an indicator of the future of Chrysler, and so far, all signs are pointing to a bright future. Business Insider is calling the Dart “a delightful surprise,” and Auto Guide named it “most attractive vehicle in its class.” By hanging that building wrap on the Dodge headquarters, Chrysler is making a statement. More than just standing behind the Dart, they trust it to be the face of the brand in 2012.

Will the Dodge Dart Hit It Big with Young Drivers?

Twenty-three percent of compact car buyers are 30 years old or younger, and Dodge is keeping that in mind when marketing their hottest new compact car, the 2013 Dodge Dart.

Through and through, the 2013 Dodge Dart is aimed at a young driver. Great fuel economy and a touch-screen music system are just a few of the features that they expect to attract the under-30 crowd. The biggest draw for the Dodge Dart, however, is the idea of individuality. The Dodge Dart is available in 12 exterior colors and with 14 interior combinations, four different grilles, six different wheels, and three different engines.

Dodge is hoping that the varying combinations of interior and exterior features will make each car buyer feel as though the car is uniquely their own and give the owner a sense of individuality. Young people tend to have a need to assert their independence and their own personal sense of style. At the same time, the car buyer will have the security of knowing that at its core, every Dodge Dart is a well-made car, and they are making a good decision choosing the Dart over similar compact cars.

If anyone still doubts that Dodge is aiming for young car buyers, consider what city they chose for their big marketing push. Dodge could have chosen any number of big cities to host their three-week driving program promoting the Dart, but they chose Austin, a city where over a third of its population is between the ages of 20 and 34.

Will the Dart hit it big with under-thirty drivers? Only time will tell, but Dodge marketing is already making smart decisions in targeting youth.
