Dodge Challenger Spotted With New Hellcat Engine?

Dodge-Challenger_SRT8_392_2011_800x600_wallpaper_04More fuel to add to the fire about the Hellcat engine due to a recent spy photo surfacing today.  The photographer was able to capture a possible Dodge Challenger SRT8 that looks to be using the experimental technology.

According to the rumor, Chrysler has been developing a new engine to give their muscle cars some extra oomph to compete with their rivals.  The engine, known as ‘Hellcat’ currently, is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine.  That would provide for a power range of 560 horsepower to 640 horsepower.  The real topper of the rumor is that this will also have the new eight-speed transmission that Chrysler is putting into most of their upcoming vehicles.

The reason why this photo has people thinking it’s the Hellcat is because of a few choice visual clues.  The first is that the brakes are enlarged that would allow for increased stopping power.  The exhaust in the back are also different and bigger than what’s typically seen on a Challenger SRT8.  According to the person who took the photograph, he described the sound coming out of the car as being like “nothing short of thunder.”  Also noted is that the car is missing the driver’s side headlights.  This might show that the engineers are looking at new ways to help air intake and that it would be right where the headlights are.

Currently, Chrysler is keeping quiet on the Hellcat.  They’ve released no official information on what to expect.

New Dodge Journey Coming in 2016?

UntitledThe Dodge Journey first was first launched in 2009. Since then the mid-sized crossover SUV really hasn’t been changed in a major way. The next-generation of the model will be coming in 2016.

Automotive News is reporting that the Dodge Journey will be taking production away from the Chrysler 200 sedan, which is being built in the Sterling Heights Assembly plant in Michigan. Production of the Journey currently is in Toluca, Mexico.

The rumor being reported on is that, like the Chrysler 200, the new Dodge Journey will be using the same Giulieta platform that’s being used for the Dodge Dart and the upcoming Jeep Cherokee.

By moving production up to Michigan may be happening to help reduce costs by making it easier for suppliers to provide common components necessary to build the vehicles. Seems like a smart choice, especially if Dodge plans on really pushing the new generation of the Dodge Journey.

2014 Dodge Durango Revealed at New York Auto Show

2014_dodge_durango_actf34_ns_326133_717The 2014 Dodge Durango got its full unveiling at the New York Auto Show.  It was speculated early what the technology it would have, time to find out if it was accurate.

It was a safe bet to make at the time that the Durango would have the Uconnect system.  Good thing too because it does indeed include the tech.  That, as well as a 9-inch dual Blu-ray and DVD player, gives any passengers a good distraction during lengthy rides.

Of course, it takes more than just an obvious inclusion of popular technology and a DVD player to really awe drivers with a new model.  What else is new in the 2014 Dodge Durango?  One is also the one that Dodge is gleaming about when discussing the new SUV.  That would be a rotary shifter for the all-new standard eight-speed transmission.  This helps with fuel economy, boosting it by 9 percent.  The shifter handle will be replaced with a rotary knob and paddle controls, giving drivers the ability to shift manually.

The only image of the Durango prior to the show was a look at the tail light.  Now the full exterior has been revealed.  The signature Dodge crosshair grille is still there, despite the new look. There are also hosts of other changes which Reid Bigland, the CEO of Dodge brand, breaks down in this video:

2014 Dodge Durango Will Likely Have UConnect

There are plenty of new reveals just around the corner with the New York Auto Show. Mopar and Jeep have come together to put out six new Jeep concepts that’ll be on display at the event. Dodge is also teasing auto-enthusiasts prior to the happening with the new 2014 Durango. All that’s been shown so far is the tease of a taillight design, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from speculating on what to expect.

Digital Trends believes they know a multitude of features that the 2014 Dodge Durango will have. It should have a load of new tech that Chrysler has been pushing for. The conclusion is drawn from the press release that Dodge put out in which they say, “Built on the Dodge brand’s pillars of style, performance, and innovation, the new 2014 Dodge Durango will deliver state-of-the-art-technology in both form and function.”

Not exactly a tough conclusion to come up with from the fact that the mission statement from Dodge is about being ahead of the pack in auto technology. The Durango incorporating the popular Uconnect system seems like a given with how positive the feedback from critics and drivers has been. A real question to wonder about is if Durango will be having a brand new piece of tech to go with it. Until the New York Auto Show, it’s all just guessing.
