Auto Show Puts Dodge Deora on Display

rw09_r184_leadThe Autorama auto show is a celebration of hot-rod culture.  One way of doing this is by showing off the winners of the Ridler Award.  The award, named after Don Ridler who was the Hot Rod Associations first professional promoter, is now in its 50th year.  Reaching a number that large means something special needs to be done and they have just the car to do it with.

The Detroit News has the full breakdown of every vehicle present at the show.  One in particular should stand out to car fans.  It’s a concept car that has to be seen to be believed, the Dodge Deora.  One look at this thing and you’ll notice that you’ve never quite seen anything like it.  It was a bizarre creation handled by the Alexander Brothers.  They had wanted to make a custom pickup based on the cab-over pickups that were coming out in the 1960s.  The one they intended to mirror was the new Chrysler A100.  Chrysler agreed to the idea and let the brothers get to work.

Harry Benthley Bradley was chiefly responsible for the design, working with the brothers to accomplish this goal.  One of the most notable features they wound up with was just how to get in.  Lacking the traditional side doors for either passenger or driver, instead you would open the front of the car, lift the steer wheel, and crawl in.  It’s like something out of a science fiction movie.

When it was unveiled, Chrysler showed it off as the future.  Even today it still looks uniquely modern.  The biggest problem was, obviously, that it was made in a time without precious knowledge of crumple zones.  The cabin was also small and uncomfortable for most people.

Collectors have taken a liking to it.  It’s hard not to see why a car lover wouldn’t want this in their garage.  There’s not really anything else quite like it.  The Dodge Deora has quite a following by enthusiasts.

Take a look for yourself and marvel at the wonder behind the design.  No matter what you think of it, there’s no denying that it stands out as something unique.

Want a Dodge Dart? Put It on Your Registry!

Dodge Dart RegistryI remember that when I was getting married, my wife and I walked around our favorite stores with a scan gun and just let our imaginations run wild while we made a registry list. We went aisle to aisle finding every possibility. There was a part of us, though, that knew what we could expect from family and friends. Although, that didn’t stop us from adding on some big ticket items with the thinking of ‘just in case we have a deep pocketed person who really likes us.’ We never did get that flat-screen for the wedding. What if what you wanted, however, was a new car? Seems like a pretty crazy concept doesn’t it. Dodge doesn’t think so. They want you to get registered for a Dodge Dart.

Here’s how the concept works. You go to the special website www.DodgeDartRegistry.com and sign up. Next, you tell all your family and friends about what you just did, and after enduring laughter and skepticism, you explain the process. When you sign up, you choose the how much of the Dart you want to customize. Then you set an amount of money you want to fund it. The website then itemizes the different parts of the car, such as steering wheel, seat, or engine, and then the family and friends step into sponsor a specific part.

This video that Dodge made explains it fully. It also shows how one person, a chef and caterer named Graham Schave, decided to take advantage of the registry.

It might sound a tad absurd at first, but it really sounds like an amazing deal. If you’re looking to get a Dart and are willing to try something new to get a car, this might be the program for you. Check it out.

2013 Dodge Dart: Earth, Wind, & Power Car of the Year!

UntitledThe 2013 Dodge Dart has received the award for the Earth, Wind, and Power Car of the Year for 2013.  The award is always given to the one stand out vehicle or truck of the year that is the most environmentally progressive.

The award is handed out by Earth, Wind, and Power Media and their partners in an effort to educate drivers on climate change.  They look for vehicles that are the most-fuel efficient and that just goes to show how amazing the new Dodge Dart is.

“We are honored to accept this award that recognizes the Dodge Dart’s environmental friendliness and fuel economy of up to 41 miles per gallon,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Dodge Brand.  “In addition to its excellent fuel economy, the all-new Dodge Dart offers features and benefits never before offered in a compact car, the interior room of a mid-size car and class-leading technology, style, and safety, and a starting price of just $15,995.”

The Dodge Dart is one of the most impressive new vehicles of the year.  Being honored for an award aimed at raising awareness of how incredible its fuel economy is shows how hard the engineers at Dodge worked to produce an incredible new vehicle.

Dodge Charger Pursuit: Future Super Car of Law Enforcement

2013-Dodge-Charger-Pursuit-Police-Package-626x382At the CES show in Las Vegas going on as we speak, Dodge unveiled the next generation of law enforcement vehicles for the LAPD.  Featuring a host of new features and technologies, The Dodge Charger Pursuit is the next generation of law enforcement vehicles.

Dan Costa at PC Mag got to take a tour of the Dodge Charger at the tech show.  He made note of many of the new tech features that will be used.  One such one was a multiple camera system along with one that will photograph a license plate that is in the car’s view.  It’ll run a check in the database and see if the car’s been stolen or if it’s wanted for a crime.  It even has an infrared camera that will let the cop see if there’s a warm engine in a parking lot or if someone is hiding behind a bush.

Safety was a major concern for the new vehicle.  One way to help the officers during a gun fight is by reinforcing the doors with Kevlar.  Another is the removal of the laptop platforms that have been a hazard to officers involved in a car crash for some time now.  To solve this issue, Chrysler is using their now standard U-Connect system.  The 8.4 inch screen size is too small, however, so they upped the screen to 12.1 inches.

A solar panel is now installed in the roof to keep the battery charged.  This will help the police be out on the road more and less likely to be stuck in the motor pool with a dead battery.

All in all, Chrysler is working with the LAPD to make sure that they have the best means to aid their officers on the job.  Most of the upgrades and improvements seem extremely practical.  As Sgt Dan Gomez, the officer giving the grand tour says of the Dodge Charger Pursuit, “I have no doubt this is the most technologically advanced law enforcement vehicle in the US.”
