Community Comes Together to Purchase a Dodge Dart

24-dart-blue-brickIt’s been a while since we announced that Dodge put together a registry to help customers pay for their Dart. The good news is that the registry has just produced its first full purchase. The even better news is that the first Dart was purchased for charity.

The very first Dodge Dart that was crowd-funded was by a group in Clifton Park, NY by the Northstar Church. The community came together for a greater cause, however, in where the Dart was going to. It was to help a woman, Toni, in need of transportation for her weekly trips to Boston to be part of a clinical trial for treatment..

The registry was made by friends and without her knowledge. All it took to raise the $22,600 for the Dart was 21 days. More than 260 friends, family, and church members put in their contributions to provide for someone in need.

Such a big deal, both the charity and the fact this is the first Dart purchased through the registry, needs a celebration centered around it. So Toni was invited to a special event at a local dealership in Clifton Park to be given the 2013 Dodge Dart SXT by her close friends. Dodge also showed up to take part of the event with a special announcement.

Dodge is giving a contribution of $20,000 to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of what the attendees of the Northstar Church were able to accomplish. In further effort to help Toni with her medical treatment, the auto company also gave her a $2,000 gift card to help pay for the gas she needs for those long trips to Boston.

“The Dodge Dart Registry was designed as an innovation way for friends and family to come together in raising funds toward the purchase of an all-new Dodge Dart,” Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge Brand said. “In recognition of the great collaborative effort of the Clifton Park, NY, community who raised in excess of $22,500 in support of their friend, I’m pleased to announce a significant contribution on behalf of the Dodge Brand to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.”

It’s one of those heart-warming stories that is hard not to feel something while reading.  A community rising up to help someone in their neighborhood.  It certainly shows just how the registry can be put to use.  I wonder if there will be any other creative uses of crowd-funding for purchasing a vehicle.

Want a Dodge Dart? Put It on Your Registry!

Dodge Dart RegistryI remember that when I was getting married, my wife and I walked around our favorite stores with a scan gun and just let our imaginations run wild while we made a registry list. We went aisle to aisle finding every possibility. There was a part of us, though, that knew what we could expect from family and friends. Although, that didn’t stop us from adding on some big ticket items with the thinking of ‘just in case we have a deep pocketed person who really likes us.’ We never did get that flat-screen for the wedding. What if what you wanted, however, was a new car? Seems like a pretty crazy concept doesn’t it. Dodge doesn’t think so. They want you to get registered for a Dodge Dart.

Here’s how the concept works. You go to the special website www.DodgeDartRegistry.com and sign up. Next, you tell all your family and friends about what you just did, and after enduring laughter and skepticism, you explain the process. When you sign up, you choose the how much of the Dart you want to customize. Then you set an amount of money you want to fund it. The website then itemizes the different parts of the car, such as steering wheel, seat, or engine, and then the family and friends step into sponsor a specific part.

This video that Dodge made explains it fully. It also shows how one person, a chef and caterer named Graham Schave, decided to take advantage of the registry.

It might sound a tad absurd at first, but it really sounds like an amazing deal. If you’re looking to get a Dart and are willing to try something new to get a car, this might be the program for you. Check it out.
