Dodge Charger Hellcat: King of the Drift

Dodge Charger Hellcat - King of Drifts

Is the Dodge Charger Hellcat the Chuck Norris of cars?  That’s a pretty odd thing to say, especially after Ram put out a Texas Ranger edition of one of their trucks.  I’m not the one asking it, however, that would be the Inquistir.  They’ve been checking out recent news and videos of the Charger Hellcat and it is hard not to see the thing as something altogether impressive, like the beard of Chuck Norris/

The Charger Hellcat, I feel, has been getting the short end of the stick in comparison to its brother the Challenger.  The Charger is the most powerful sedan available at due to the Hellcat.  With an engine pumping out 707 horsepower, there is few cars in its class that can keep up.

One of the videos they viewed to see the almighty power of the Charger Hellcat is MotorTrend’s Roadkill on YouTube.  They put the Charger up against the other two powerhouses in the Dodge family; the Viper and the Challenger.  The aim of doing this, of putting the car in competition, was to have a drift test.  It’s an impressive sight to see, but it is the Charger that wins the day.  Check out the video, with the specific segment starting at about 17:11 if you don’t have time to watch all of it.

Sadly, the Charger Hellcat has a temporary hold on order new ones from the dealerships.  Turns out that people want something this powerful.  Can’t imagine why.  Hopefully it will not be long before Dodge can met the demand placed on the Hellcats and get these bad boys out to those who want it.  I wonder if Chuck Norris has one.

Fortune Takes the Challenger SRT Hellcat for a Nostalgic Spin

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Fortune Magazine - Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Fortune magazine took the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat out for a spin and came away with love and admiration not just for the car itself but for the concept of the American muscle car.

The newest model year of the Challenger is meant to invoke a sense of nostalgia for the golden age of the American muscle car; the 1970’s.  Many of the design choices are direct call backs to the Challengers of that era.  The SRT Hellcat is even more of a dedication to that era with its powerful engine.

As it is impossible to do when talking about the Challenger Hellcat, that engine is the first thing to talk about.  When the marketing is to show off in giant neon letters the 707 horsepower, how could that not be the main talking point?  “The Challenger is, in fat, the most potent American production car on the market…”  They continue to say that it only trails behind the Ferrari F12berlinetta in terms of power.  However, the Challenger costs a quarter-million less than the Ferrari, so there is that.

It is clear the writer is loving the Hellcat Challenger for that sense of nostalgia.  It is a call back to the time when the power of the muscle car was all that mattered.  “…the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is unapologetic and earnest with its comically over-endowed powerplay and old-school silhouette.”  The SRT Hellcat isn’t meant for the driver who needs a daily commuting car or a family ride, it is really for the driver who needs that burst of speed and power and to be reminded of days gone by.

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is Able to Go 0 – 60 in Mere Seconds

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat - DodgeDealerNy

The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is built for speed. One number is tossed around anytime someone brings up the new sedan, and that is the horsepower. 707 horsepower is no laughing matter. That number has gotten many drivers itching to test the new Charger SRT Hellcat is see if the real deal lives up to the hype. Doubters beware, according to Jalopnik, the Charger Hellcat is as powerful as Dodge is saying.

The article quotes that TorqueNews was able to be part of a presentation given by Chrysler which went over various details on the Charger SRT Hellcat’s performance. In the presentation, Dodge laid out that the Charger Hellcat is able to go from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. If that was not impressive enough by itself, it can do a quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds.

It isn’t really surprising. The Hellcat series of both the Charger and Challenger are built to appease the speed demons of the road. The engineers working on them seem hell-bent on making sure that their nefarious creations are provided with the titles of “fastest ever.” I think was is so fascinating is that I never thought that a sedan would be capable of such raw power, but it looks like SRT and Dodge live to challenge what any type of car can do.

Why The Viper is Struggling in Sales

2015 Dodge SRT Viper - Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge - 01hor

The SRT Viper is now back under the Dodge name.  Along with that, the Viper is also getting a new model.  The biggest hurdle that the new Viper has to get over, however, isn’t anything to do with its power or the name on the label, but just how to convince drivers to invest in the Viper.

Jalopnik highlights that the Viper seems to be doing everything right but can’t seem to boost sales.  The new model has a more powerful 8.4-liter V10 engine that gives five additional horsepower and better fuel economy.

Jalopnik blames the sales trend on its rival, the Corvette Stingray, which is less powerful than the new Viper, but a deal cheaper.  If anything is holding back the new Viper from getting into the garages of fans, it is most likely the higher cost.

Now that the Viper is a Dodge brand vehicle again and is bringing out various improvements in its new models, maybe drivers will follow what Jalopnik is asking of them and that is to please buy the Viper.
