First Production Model of the SRT Viper GTS Auctioned for Charity

The new Dodge SRT Viper GTS is a hotly anticipated vehicle, one that anyone who loves sports cars would want in their garage. One such fan was lucky enough to snag the first production model. The catch to owning it however was that it was placed on auction. The best part, however, is that the winnings were donated to charity. The chance to own the first Dodge SRT Viper GTS ended up bringing in $300,000 which will be given to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

The Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology brand partnered with the Austin Hatcher Foundation to put this charity auction together to benefit the children and families that struggle with pediatric cancer. Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC, said of the partnership, “What an exciting and momentous occasion for the Austin Hatcher Foundation and the SRT brand. We’ve enjoyed a lot of attention since showing the all-new SRT Viper to the world just three months ago in New York, and now being able to use some of that interest in our flagship supercar to generate support for this deserving charity is simply outstanding.”

The production of the new Viper is slated to begin later this year at the home of the Viper at the Detroit Conner Avenue Assembly Plant. It is being reborn with a emphasis on more power and more performance with an 8.4 liter V-10 that is able to produce 640 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque.

The first, is a fun drive? Second, is it fun to own? Not a perfect system, even the editors agree, but one that works well to identify coolness in a car.

“The Dodge Dart’s enticing combination of style, performance, features, and value have earned it the top spot in our 2012 coolest cars list,” said Jack Nerad, the executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book. “With exceptional interior space and loads of personalization potential, the all-new Dart will definitely make its presence felt in the ultra-competitive compact sedan segment.”
