Dodge Grand Caravan Celebrates 30 Years

It’s been 30 years since the Dodge Grand Caravan was introduced to the world.  In the three decades that have happened since, the Grand Caravan has become the leader in the mini-van segment.

Throughout the years, the Grand Caravan has been the driving force behind innovations that families look for when browsing for a mini-van.  One such feature is the Stow ‘n Go seating.  As anyone who has ever traveled before, storage can be a major issue.  With Stow ‘n Go, the Grand Caravan made it incredibly simple and fast to go from providing seating for seven to having more space.  The Stow ‘n Go seats also double as storage containers.

The new 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan comes with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, an engine that Ward named one of their “Best Engines of 2013.”  That gives the the Grand Caravan the most horsepower in its class at 283 horsepower.

Minivans have the designation of being the family vehicle.  Safety is a major concern and that is why the Grand Caravan is built tough to protect those you care about.  The Grand Caravan is a ‘2013 IIHS Top Safety Pick’ and has seven airbags, including front, seat-mounted, knee blocker, and side-curtain airbags, to keep everyone in the vehicle safe.

What Lies in Dodge’s Future?

13-avenger-mountainWho knows the future will bring, there’s just no predicting a thing.

Wards Auto reports that Chrysler is planning to have the majority of the Dodge line-up renewed by 2016.  But what is going to happen after that?

Currently, 60 percent of Chrysler products will be undergoing an update before the end of 2016.  When that happens, 75 percent of the company’s vehicles will be based on the CUSW platform that is with the 2013 Dodge Dart.

Dodge’s future, right now, will have the Avenger being replaced in 2016 by a combination of the Journey and Avenger.  The Charger and the Challenger will be getting refreshed come 2014 and the Grand Caravan will be getting a new look for 2015.

After that, it’s not known what to expect from the car maker.  Ward believes that Chrysler may introduce or redesign several vehicles for 2017.  Chrysler may even be considering doing away with the Dodge brand.  It’s seems absurd, Dodge vehicles typically out-sell Chrysler vehicles.  So for now, we’ll just wait and see what the future has in store for Dodge brand.
