Sergio Marchionne’s Customer Dodge Challenger SRT up for Auction

2011_dodge_challenger-srt8_front_ns_31313_717Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler’s CEO, is putting up a one-of-a-kind Dodge up for auction.  His customized 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 will be available to bid upon at the Barrett-Jackson event April 4th through the 6th.

The Challenger is simply amazing.  It’s the kind of beast you’d expect from someone at the head of Chrysler.  Marchionne had it given a black paint job along with “Dark Charcoal” racing stripes.  Proving that it’s good to be the kind, those stripes were put on by the hands of the SRT studio and painters from the Chrysler Group’s Product Design Office.

According to Edmunds, the people putting this together for the CEO wanted the special Challenger to have “a sinister look from every angle, so the tailamps have been “smoked” and the iconic 392 Hemi fender badges have been re-created in gloss and satin black finishes.”

Chrysler will also be throwing in the latest crate engine from Mopar, the 540-horsepower Hemi V8, along with the car to the winner.  The custom Challenger also comes with a Mopar-adjustable coil-over suspension kit and exhaust system.  The wheels are 20-inch and finished in matte black.

To top it all off, Marchionne made sure to include his autograph on the car.  The proceeds from the auctioning off will be going to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

Edmunds and Parents Award Dodge Durango Best Family Car

With the Dodge Dart’s approaching release into the wild, all the focus of late has been on what to expect out of the new compact. Not to be overshadowed, the Dodge Durango decided to take a hold of the news cycle for the day.

Edmunds.com and Parents magazine both included the 2012 Dodge Durango on the list of “Best Family Cars of 2012.” This is a great milestone for the vehicle as this is the 10th award that the 2012 Durgano has received so far. The other awards that the car has is the “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and “Full-Size SUV of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association.

Scott Oldham, the Edmunds.com editor-in-chief, explained the Durango’s win, “Modern and functional, the 2012 Dodge Durango has been designed with style and family-style versatility in mind. The seven passenger Durango packs a high-quality interior, the latest high-tech gadgets, a fuel-effcient drivetrain and a fun to drive demeanor.”

This is the fifth year that Edmunds and Parents have been going over hundreds of cars to find out which ones stand out in terms of safety and reliability. Each one gets evaluated on the performance, interior, exterior, and the family-friendly features.

“We are honored that Edmunds.com and Parents have featured the Dodge Durango on this exclusive list,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Dodge Brand. “Dodge is committed to providing quality products to our customers that are safe, innovative and family-friendly, while doing so with passionate styling that sets us apart.”

Dodge CEO Takes 2013 Dodge Viper for a Test Drive

One of the best thing about being the president of a car maker is being able to take whatever car you want for a spin. If you’re Ralph Giles, the president and CEO of the SRT brand, that means you have access to the brand new prototype for the 2013 SRT Viper. That also means that every driver on the road you pass by gets to be incredibly jealous of you.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Ralph Giles decided to take the new Viper for a spin on the freeway. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that commuters were shocked to see it speeding by. “With the modern-day cell phones everyone was almost crashing into me trying to take pictures,” Giles said.

The rebirth of the Dodge Viper and Dart are the big talk of the auto world this year. The Viper has been gone from the public since 2010, when it was discontinued out of the financial woes that Dodge was facing. Fiat becoming a the controlling shareholder is what helped get the Viper back on the roads. The new 2013 Viper will be available to people who are not the head of Dodge in the fourth quarter of this year.
